Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.
Lovely little city. Clean and obvious care and respect for their historical buildings. The harbour and dock are easy to get to and walk around. there are hills in the city but still easy to walk around. Lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. The hop on hop off buses are a good way to see the sights and orientate yourself in the city. Salamanca markets on Saturday and the Farmers Gate market on Sunday are both great.
it is a good city to base yourself for many tours as well, wineries close by, day trip to Bruny Is, etc. I loved it!

Hobart is a nice city for around one day.
Hobart is a nice city for around one day. I was here cause I had a tour planned departing from Hobart. The city itself is not that exciting so one day is more than enough to see the city centre. Of course, if you want to visit the MONA museum or hike up Mt Wellington you need some more days. My tour guide also said that there are a lot of nice vineyards/wineries in the surrounding area so have a look for that if that is something you like!

I really enjoyed this city but I am more of a small town vibe. Bumi coffee's sambal chilli scrambled eggs was the highlight! Sadly did witness/experienced 3 incidences of potential racism towards Asians though...

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.

Hobart was full of interesting buildings and places to visit, particularly Constitution Dock (Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race) and MONA. It was a good place to take day trips to Bruny Island or Port Arthur and other notable places. The Salamanca Markets is a must. I was surprised at how hilly it is.

MONA was an amazing experience.
MONA was an amazing experience. Great ferry ride, interesting and sometimes challenging exhibits and meal, wait staff and entertainment at Farro restaurant were incredible.
Bus trip to MT Wellington a must also especially on a beautiful day.
The walk from the Distillery via the Women's factory and beside the river back into town was beautiful.
absolutely beautiful hotel with very spacious room and exceptional layout. They paid attention to every detail of the room, used fritz hansen for chair and dyson lamp. they do not skimp ! Feels truly luxurious. And these days, space is truly a luxury rarely afforded for travelers. Very friendly check in staff and all staff in general. complimentary valet parking too. i wish we had more time to spend at this hotel. I sincerely hope the hotel would expand to other cities in the world. I would stay at any of their hotels in a heartbeat.
The location is everything when describing this property. You are literally right above where Salamanca markets are held. There are heaps of dining and drinking options within a minutes walk. Art galleries, shops, CBD etc is only minutes away by walking. A few days earlier I had stayed in North Hobart and compared to that hotel, which was a 20 minute walk up/down a hill, the location of Galleria could not be topped. Highly recomment.
The apartment was so spacious. Heaps of room for working, sleeping and playing!
We arrived on a late evening flight, and the hotel made arrangements for our after hours access to our room - these arrangements were made by the Motel at the time of the booking, so we had everything in place well ahead of the trip. The hotel is surrounded by a variety of restaurants and a supermarket, so you do not need to travel far for great meal options. However, the location is close to Battery Point and Hobart CBD, so you have many options. The rooms are spacious, the shower is hot, and the towels are plush.
Beautiful hotel, very original in conception. Wonderful location, just on the old Macquarie wharf at Hobart's tourist port. Excellent organization and careful management by the hotel's team. Closely linked to the history of the city of Hobart, whose colourful characters are finely sketched on the doors of the rooms. Excellent food at the "Old Wharf Restaurant" and very fine selection of Tasmanian gins, whiskies and vodkas at the "Evolve Spirits" bar.
Congratulations.
My studio apartment was very well appointed - the kitchenette had everything I needed to prepare meals and the washing machine and dryer in the room were super convenient for a week-long stay. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Location is also convenient - a short walk to the waterfront and into the CBD, with the added convenience of an airport bus stop at the front door. Also plenty of cafes and restaurants, etc in easy walking distance.
The check in process is always smooth and the staff are friendly and accommodating. beds and pillows are very comfortable and the rooms are spotless. we love the sauna, pool and gym, as well as undercover parking. The hotel is close to the waterfront, CBD shopping, gyms and cinema. One of the best places to stay in Hobart and a consistently great experience.
I liked the architecture, decor, and history of the hotel. The room was exceptionally clean, and the bedding was superb. The bed was dreamily comfortable.
I ate dinner at the restaurant and it was very good. A waitress by the name of Chelsea was stellar and super sweet. I highly recommend the First Tasmanian Ice Cream- cucumber mint!
Quiet location within a few minutes of Hobart CBD - the apartment is fully renovated with modern furniture and bedding
There are good kitchen appliances, ceramic electric cooktop and microwave, dishwasher and washing machine - luxury cutlery and utensils.
Large Flatscreen TV and free Wifi rounds up the facilities.
The hotel was located in a superb part of Hobart, with a delightful view of the harbour! It was an easy stroll to some of the main sites, as well as accessible to the airport via the main road. The room was comfortable and a decent size, with modern amenities and a fairly noiseless environment.
The apartments were beautiful, had an excellent range of facilities, were exceptionally clean and a great size. I travelled with 3 family groups and all of the apartments were fantastic. The location was great being a short walk to shops and restaurants.
The layout of their family suite was great for two parents and two kids. Each sleeping space has its own door, balcony, and television. Good water pressure in the shower too. It was an easy walk for us to several locations of interest in Hobart
Welcoming staff at a great hotel opposite the Hobart waterfront. Our attractive heritage room had a beautiful harbour view and was clean and comfortable. Lovely restaurant with a good menu featuring local Tasmanian foods and wines.
Nice new modern apartment, plenty of space to breathe and relax after a busy day of sightseeing. Amazing location, so much amazing food nearby and a central spot to get around Hobart and other spots in Tasmania.
Very large and spacious 2 bed apartment with main bathroom and additional toilet / vanity. Good location within walking distance to all Hobart has to offer. Clean and good facilities. Would stay again.
We are a family group from Melbourne, my father’s funeral was in Hobart and the house was perfect for all of us including a 3 month old baby. We even got a late check out for our afternoon flight
A lovely boutique hotel a short walk out of Hobart with stunning views of Mt Wellington. Beautiful rooms and lovely staff and breakfast. Highly recommended a stay here.
Spectacular view, clean apartment and great facilities for the family. Convenient location near the city, but away from the histle and busle of the inner city.
