We loved everything about Hotel Rangá. The staff were all lovely and super helpful. The room was really comfortable with a lovely jacuzzi bath in the en-suite. We were lucky to have a north facing room so got a really good view of the Northern Lights. There is an aurora wake up service but we were already up mesmerised by the show outside. The observatory was open on the night we stayed too which was really interesting. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening but breakfast the next day was one of the best we’ve had in Iceland. So much choice with hot and cold options. We will definitely return in the future.

This is a beautiful, newly built property, with really lovely design and layout. It’s in a remote location which adds to the charm but it’s a drive to the nearest shops or restaurants. I ate before I arrived because I was unsure what food was available but there is a small menu that would have been sufficient for me. The breakfast provided was lovely. As many other reviews have mentioned, Bernat, the manager is wonderful. He really looks after his guests and he provides generouse, attentive and friendly service and brilliant information.

The accommodation was exactly what we were looking for. Location was great, we were looking for something remote and the size was perfect for a couple. The hosts were really lovely and even left us a gift to celebrate our engagement which happened half way through our trip. Can’t recommend enough!

Hella a bit sparse.
Hella a bit sparse. No good restaurants that we found and they stop serving at 9pm. Not much to Hella but it was in the countryside and we saw the Northern Lights. Our hotel was well lit so we could find it but they would not turn off the lights to view the Northern Lights better.

Small central town, great for staying at the igloos, and great for going all round. So nice to go east to Vik for the Katla ice caves, skogafoss and the waterfall hike, and Vik beach and west for kerid crater and blue lagoon and then north for gullfoss and the geysers. The town itself has a small supermarket, nice bakery and okay places to eat. Looks pretty with the mountains to the side.

We were not happy with the accommodation.
We were not happy with the accommodation. The front desk staff were disorganized. We were told a day before check that we would have 2 cabins instead of the 2 rooms we booked in the main hotel. When we arrived we were told we would get 2 cabins. When we checked I across the street, we were told we had one cabin which was a downgrade for us. One adult had to sleep in an upper bunk bed and the cabin was smelly , some windows did not fully close and the main door did not lock. We were quite disappointed in the accommodations. The cabin was not in good shape. We specifically booked 2 rooms to get 2 bathrooms period. Based in all of this, we would like to request a partial refund.

Location of home is quiet, on a horse farm, about 30 minutes from the main town of Selfoss. It was a good location to explore the south. We would stay there again!

Terrible relocation experience due to overbooking.
1.
Terrible relocation experience due to overbooking.
1. Unacceptable reason of overbooking in real time booking system especially we have fully paid.
2. The selection of customers for relocation is not transparent, not logical and also not acceptable, especially we have fully paid in serval months (confirmed and paid on 4 Feb 2023 for the booking on 1-3 Aug)
3. We booked 3 rooms (7 persons) for 2 nights (1-3 Aug). Maybe pre-empting us can release more rooms for others, and maximize the revenue as we might paid less (booked in 6 months in advance)
4. Very short notice ie we received the relocation message at 16:18 on 1 Aug that we were on the way to Legendary Hotel Hella. I strongly believe the overbooking happened at least a month ago but I had only 2 hours notification time
5. 2 receptionists are inexperienced to handle such disaster issue. The manager, the decision maker, was hidden and not face to or talk to the customer directly. 2 Receptionists were not able to explain the situation nor to comport their customers.
6. We were relocated to Bru Country Estate, that required us to drive about 1 hour to there.
7. Hotel Hella booked 3 rooms for us (7 persons) in Bru Country Estate for us but there are only double rooms (no triple room) in Bru Country Estate. It created another problem during the careless relocation booking.
8. We booked a local tour to Highland on 2 Aug. The itinerary was changed and shorted due to longer travel time starting from Selfoss instead of Hella
The hotel listed a hot tub - but we were told upon arrival that it wasn't completed yet. This was a disappointment. The bed and room was comfortable and well set up. Excellent shower. The door access key was complicated and we had to go down to the front desk twice to get help. The television didn't work and the manager needed to re-boot the entire system. Food was good, though menu was the same for the two nights. Breakfast was good. Restaurant staff were very polite and helpful - but always seemed very rushed and stressed.
Nothing, we didn’t stay at all. Checked in around 7 pm only got the keys as we were late for dinner at another restaurant, sure what can go wrong. Came back at 10 pm to find dirty cabin - can understand these things happen however no one to contact, reception closed, messaged the property no answer called the number multiple times no answer. In the middle of the Iceland 10 pm pissing rain. Luckily another property down the road had extra room for the night. Also messaged the property multiple times days after this still no reply.
Beautiful location and spectacular path to the property. It was beautifully furnished and super warm. Although we did not get to see the the northern lights the rain falling on the top of the igloo made us feel really cozy and comfortable. Waking up with the sunrise was super lovely. Highly recommended stay and just an hour away from the capital region of Iceland and a short trip to Hella were you can find something to eat
The hotel looks way better on the inside than the outside - as you drive up it looks like a cheap motel, but inside it is really nice. Rooms fit 4 comfortably - although no where to sit so longer than one night could be annoying. Breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast we had in Iceland. Ultimately you stay here because it is close to the south coast sites - and it made it easy for us to explore so we were happy!
The staff was great and the bedroom was clean and comfortable, however the bathroom was terrible. The family room we stayed in at the end of the hotel had a large bathroom, but there was no base or divider for the shower, so when we took a shower, it flooded the entire bathroom and the tile was slippery when wet (so dangerous). There was also duct tape around fixtures on the ceiling of the bathroom.
Hotel Laekur is a cozy and beautiful property. It is an old barn made into a family owned and operated hotel... The rooms are very comfortable, staff is friendly, welcoming and really helpful... Dining/Restaurant service excellent and the food was delicious!
I would completely recommend this hotel if you are traveling through the southern part of Iceland!
Either a short stop on the road or a stay as starting point for excursions. A hidden gem. More family home than hotel, staff was very nice and helpful, breakfast beat everything else we experienced on the trip, great coffee (a decent plus!) and the dinner provided showed the excellent cooking skills. Go for the dessert as well! Hot tub available.
The hotel was not very busy during our trip, so it was particularly quiet. The staff was friendly, helpful at all times and communication was unproblematic. We had rented a separate house. The location was beautiful with a view of the river and horses and sheep right next door. We could also watch the northern lights from there.
Loved this beautiful guest house. We stayed here one night but wish I had stayed more, as I later realized that the chances of seeing northern lights in Hella are quite high.
- Perfect cozy and comfy room
- Common dining, kitchen and seating area with all the amenities
- Yummiest heart shaped waffles by the amazing host
Very quiet and clean cabin, comfy beds, spacious, lots of storage options, excellent location for day trip on Golden Circle and for points of interest on South Coast. Fridge, stove, utensil in the kitchen, if needed. Hella is minutes away for grocery shopping and restaurants.
Excellent new hotel, great location, perfect as base for excursions in the south of Iceland. Good breakfast with all essentials, friendly and helpful staff, very good restaurant, good value for money for Icelandic standards. Small relax/spa area with sauna.
Perfect location, had a lovely observatory on the property for clear nights in which an astrologer was present. The hotel was very nice and had a rustic, cozy and homey feel to it. Appreciated they could accommodate gluten free.
I have stayed at dozen of hotels in Iceland. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. The cottage was super clean and had everything needed for our stay. Hopefully I will have a chance to visit it again :)
Host is so kind and helpful
We can contact her everytime if we need her support
It is perfect house
This house is like 5 star hotel
It is good experience for me
I will visit again if i come to visit in iceland again
We regret not staying more nights at the hotel. It was an incredible stay. They acknowledged our anniversary and left a lovely surprise. The hotel is super cute and cozy. It was the best breakfast we had in Iceland.
Nice accommodation, 1 km from the town of Hella. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and we were offered coffee, toast and cultured yogurt with muesli. The hotel overlooks a beautiful river.
They upgraded our reservation to the stracta hotel due to a booking error at the cabins. This hotel was 12/10. Their breakfast was beyond generous and the staff were very help and friendly.
Location was amazing, we were able to see the northern lights right outside the hotel.
Breakfast was good but can be better. Staff knowledgeable and common areas were good.
The hotel is in a beautiful location, right on the river with a great view. It has a mini kitchenette inside so if you wanted to cook your own food, you could do so.
