Nice warm, spacious room and fabulous bed and pillows, with a great view of Ship Creek flowing past on a cold winter day. And loved the "Alaska look" of mounted taxidermy work in the lobby and from our doorway. And it worked out quite stellar that the ice carving championships were right across the road from the motel

Very easy to get around but I recommend a rental car. Lots to see but some of the locations are definitely within driving distance. Alyeska Resort is a must. Tram rail and seven glacier restaurant is very impressive.

I came specifically for the Alaska Winter Train Ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks. It was a breathtaking beautiful ride! I am planning future trips back to Alaska to take more train tours.
The hotel shuttle driver and another hotel guest recommended the seafood chowder at Forty Ninth State Brewing in downtown Anchorage. The driver offered to take me. I ordered the Alaskan seafood chowder with a lager loaf, a garden salad and their "award winning" smoked wings. Bingo! The seafood chowder was delicious with chunks of seafood in a very flavorful creamy broth! It was very good and the lager loaf was scrumptious. Together they made a great combo!
I can see why the "award winning" smoked wings got an award...they were delicious, even cold, the next day!
Customer service here was top shelf. Kristaleigh took my order and made the recommendations for the wings and lager loaf. She was delightful and professional! Overall, it was a very warm environment and pleasant interaction.
Hats off to the chef/cook at the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel restaurant. I spent one night here and ordered take out. I ordered two salmon tacos (scrumptious and very tasty) and steamed veggies which were flavorful and steamed just right! The bartender who took my order was very helpful and professional. Great customer service!

Alaska is so beautiful but Anchorage doesn't show that at all. The city is so gloomy and is not properly taking care of its people. We did find a few good bars and pubs, but walking around on the street just made us sad. Recommend only staying in Anchorage for activities outside of the city (visit Whittier or go hiking in Chugach State Park!) or to pass through on your next adventure to Denali, Fairbanks, Kenai etc. One activity worth doing in Anchorage is the coastal trail, by bike or by foot, you'll definitely spot an eagle or a moose!

This place is great in many respects.
This place is great in many respects. Sure, its not the Sheraton, but we had a comfortable, clean room and all the staff were absolute legends. Their shuttle service was there to pick us up at the airport and drop us off via a pick up from downtown. They stored our luggage on our departure day too - thanks Anthony and the rest of the Merrill crew! They also provided a hearty breakfast which hit the spot perfectly! On top of all this, they gave us good tips for dining downtown and introduced us to the "Red Solo Cup" ... a lot of fun for travel weary aussies!

Anchorage is an interesting small city.
Anchorage is an interesting small city. The mix of cultures - ancient, indigenous, Russian, and modern influences - can be felt in the various museums and eateries. To get a feel for the city, take a bus or walking tour from the Visitors Center, then visit The Alaska Native Heritage Center, Alaska Museum, and Alaska Aviation Museum to pull the indigenous and modern worlds together. Earthquake Park, Kincaid Park and Flattop Mountain are among the open spaces that give a sense of the geography of the area. Public transportation within the city is good. The wide variety of restaurants gives visitors a range of options. Piper's, Midnight Brewery, Fancy Moose, and 49th State Brewery topped our list.
Anchorage is an excellent base for day trips north and south if time in Alaska is limited. Renting a car may be more desirable than a bus or train tour to provide flexibility. Any outing will be an adventure...Alaskan scenery is outstanding and sometimes overwhelming, even on a rainy day!

Motels/hotels are overpriced and falsely advertised.
Motels/hotels are overpriced and falsely advertised. I.e. breakfasts offerings, non working pools
Sooooo many homeless/druggies EVERYWHERE!!!!
Lots of beautiful museums
Fabulous eateries
Parking places/meters eat quarters as snacks
Train ride to Seward was beautiful
All accommodation in Anchorage is overpriced if you ask me, but this hotel is very good and nice if we are comparing it with other hotels and prices. Staff on reception was not too friendly or helpful, but other than that, everything was great. Very clean. Free parking. Free shuttle to airport. Room was huge, quiet, clean, with little kitchen, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, little stove. Bathroom clean and nice. It had everything that you might need and more, for short or long stays. Like little appartment. I would recommend it.
Very good value for the money (hotel prices in downtown Anchorage in summer are very high; this one was much less expensive and only about 1.5 miles from downtown). Breakfast was fine. Large room with table and sofa (I presume it converts to an extra bed). Bathroom & linens clean. Heavy curtains kept the night-time light out well. Staff were very helpful & friendly. Coffee available all day in the office. Quiet, especially considering the motel was completely full pretty much every night. Handy Chinese restaurant next door.
The Westmark is very well located in downtown Anchorage, and most of the downtown area is easily walkable from the property. Service was excellent, Jannelle at the front desk was able to get us checked in early after our flight arrived super early and was a comforting presence throughout our stay. I wish every hotel I stayed at had someone like Jannelle at the front desk -- but everyone on the staff we encountered was helpful. Also, value for money is extremely good. Parking was convenient.
The staff were excellent, friendly, very attentive to your needs especially the manager. The lady manager helped us where to go places in Anchorage, also south and north side of Alaska. Rental car is a must in Alaska in order to visit far places like to see Glacier up close. The hotel is walking distance to Walmart and nearby restaurants. The room has a big sofa, with separate mini kitchen space with sink, table, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Love the rooms.
I liked that this hotel was walking distance to downtown Anchorage. I also liked how much cleaner and more updated it is, compared to other hotels (with similar price points (i.e. Inlet)) nearby. I also stayed in one of the suites with a desk, and it was nice to be able to separate my workspace from sleeping area. Also appreciated the pull out couch in the 2nd room to accommodate extra guests. The wifi was also great, as I had to work remotely during my stay.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing, and the reception in the afternoon was nice too. The room was large and very comfortable. We come into Anchorage for shopping once every 3 months or so. This hotel is a great place to stay. You have plenty of room to keep totes. Check out isn't until 12. That extra hour helps a ton when you are trying to get things organized before the flight back home.
Easy going staff, ready to assist when asked. Great shuttle to and from transport hubs and Downtown. Rooms and linen were always clean and tidy. We stayed on and off several times during our stay in Alaska and found it a great place if you have a vehicle due to the abundant, free parking. Quiet rooms, with reasonable blockout curtains. For the budget price range, you can't beat it.
The Lakefront is perfect if you are looking for a hotel to stay at on the beginning, or end of your Alaskan adventure.
The “Fancy Moose Bar” looks out at the float plane airport-on Lake Hood. It’s fun to watch the planes take off and land at Sunset.
Food and cocktails were tasty.
Beds were comfy!
The hotel is full of Alaskan charm… lots of animal trophies hanging on the walls.
The Coast is still one of the best, if not the best, value hotels in Anchorage. Their staff, from front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant, are friendly and quick to help out! It is a great choice to overnight in Anchorage. If you haven't eaten at Pipers either you are missing out. Thanks to all that work at the Coast for making it my "go to" when coming to town!
The room was nice and big. Love the shower, it had good pressure and water heats very fast. The breakfast was very good, served in a room with a view of Ship Creek. Beautiful area at the back of the hotel to walk along Ship Creek. Enjoyed the free shuttle from the airport and to the train station.
I waited for more than a half hour to have someone come to the front desk and check me in. I called the hotel to get the shuttle to pick me up at the airport and no one answered the phone for more than a half hour. I paid for a cab from the airport to the hotel
Perfect property for stay in Anchorage if you like staying in an apartment not in a hotel like we do. Fully equipped kitchen, free parking space, everything in the apartment is clean and comfortable. Easy checkin and checkout.
Local hotel prices are ridiculously high in Anchorage. This Best Value hotel is very dated but it served my purpose as I am moving to Alaska. The staff was nice and helpful and responsive to my needs of more towels and tp.
Close to the airport . Has a free shuttle from airport . Bed was comfortable and sheets appeared clean. Breakfast was unimaginative but adequate. Across the street from a very good restaurant at the Lakefront Hotel .
Comfortable, affordable room in Anchorage not far from downtown or the airport, near good restaurants and things to do. We appreciated being able to stay in a local Alaska property rather than a big chain.
Perfect location for a short visit to Anchorage. Close to everything.
Hotel has some atmosphere and history- you know you're in Alaska.
